Practices demand notice of routine CQC inspection July 2012Practices demand notice of routine CQC inspection July 2012
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is trying to force through their right to inspect practices at very short notice and are testing out the options of no notice, 48 hours notice, 4 days' notice or 10 days' notice.

A VoxDocs survey of 100 practices showed that the longer period was the minimum generally acceptable but the responses in free text suggested at least one month's notice.

The CQC forgets that General Practice is not like the hospital or nursing home sectors  that they regulate. What happens if they demand to inspect a single handed practice and the doctor has just left for a holiday? What effect will it have on patients who have prebooked a doctor appointment if at very short notice the CQC demands that the registered manager (usually a GP) is available for them?

The Family Doctor Association demands that a minimum notice period of 1 month is given for routine inspections with the right to negotiate a date and fully accepts that inspections where there is a reasonable cause for concern should be possible without notice.

An FDA snapshot survey of 100 commissioning GPs showed that GPs have an overwhelming desire to be consulted at every stage by their CCGs. These family doctors want a genuine two-way dialogue with their emerging CCGs.

The survey was undertaken at the recent Commissioning 2012 show at Olympia.
